It’s great being able to see the color under your mouse cursor in the menu bar, but it’s not that useful there unless you’ve got a good memory for 6 digit hexidecimal codes. If you’re like the rest of us, you’ll want to put that code on to your clipboard so you can paste it in somewhere else later. You create your own keyboard shortcut when the app first launches, or this can always be changed by going to the about section in the menu.


How do I copy the color that’s currently displayed to my clipboard?

Not broken, but _#colorBar_ relies on being able to view your screen information to look at the color on your screen. This is accessed in the same way many screen sharing and recording apps work, except nothing is recorded or shared. If you’re finding the color isn’t updating, it might be that _#colorBar_ doesn’t have sufficient permission to view your screen. This can be fixed in System Preferences, by going to the Security and Privacy section and allowing Screen Recording permission. You may need to unlock the Preference pane to allow this change.


The color doesn't update as I move my mouse. Is it broken?

Color is a complicated subject, and a bit more complicated than is worth going into here. In simple terms, color on your computer’s display can be calibrated to a number of different standards so that things look correct to your eyes. Since there’s so many standards and sets out there, I had to go with a generic standard that’s the same from plcace to place. For those curious, I’m taking the colour as per the display and recalibrating it to sRGB.


The color isn't correct compared to my favourite other tool - which ocolor is correct?

Anyone who's been stalking me online will eventually come to realise I'm from the UK. I should be saying `colour` but I'm using the Americanised spelling of `color`. Everything when it comes to software development and web development uses the American spelling of `color`. I write often enough that it's just become my default behaviour. It's funny though, if I was writing something non-code related I'd probably use the British spelling...

You might also notice that I use British spellings of words like *Americanise* and *behaviour*. Language is hard.
